Brief: Main Task

Tuesday 1st November

Today we were given the brief for our Media Studies AS Main Task.

"Create the titles and opening of a new thriller film, to last two minutes".

This was then explained to us, and we were talked through the marks allocated for each section. We were then given the remainder of the session to look through past mark schemes and then begin looking at current and past thriller films or research other relevant information.

Preliminary Task Self Evaluation

Before beginning my Main Task, I decided to go through the whole of my Preliminary Task blog, post by post, and self-assess what I thought were the strengths of each post, and what needed improving.

From my notes, my main strength was time management; I updated my blog regularly and about each lesson we had in school, and each period out of school that I did work.

However, I think that in order to improve my blogging, I need to give more detail and reasoning about everything I write. I need to explain how exactly I did what I did, why i did it, what the relevance of doing it was, and what I learned from doing it. For example, with my 'Plan' and 'Roles and Responsibilities' posts I needed to explain why each aspect of the mise-en-scene had been chosen, and why we shared out the roles and responsibilities in the way that we did. Also, when we were given tutorials by the technicians in order to use new technologies and programs, I needed to explain what each of the programs were, what they did, what I learned from the tutorial, and then how I would go on to use them in making my product as successful as possible.

Preliminary Task

Prior to this task we were given a Preliminary Task as a practice.
We used this to lead group and paired discussions, and self-assessments in order to see our personal strengths and weaknesses. This also enabled us to prepare for our Main Task appropriately, focussing prominently on the areas needing the most improvements.
