Personally, I decided, to research the difference between a 'horror' and a 'thriller' as I did not feel confident with my knowledge on this topic. It is important to understand the genre, it's stereotypes, and opposing stereotypes before beginning to create my own piece of media so that each aspect of the mise-en-scene is relevant and can be appropriately justified.
I found that a 'horror' tends to include more graphic and gory images and details where a 'thriller' tends to provoke similar emotions to a 'horror' but leaves the actual main events to your own imagination. Therefore, in our opening sequence, we will need to create suggestions of terror rather than visual, obvious portrayals of it. I think that the best way of doing this will be to not have too many events in the opening sequence to let the audience create their own mental images and versions of the storyline.
